“It was so special to have you take our photos, we cannot thank you enough.”
Well, I held it together all day until that line. Watching her get dressed, walking down the aisle, dancing with her father – I held it together somehow, but it was really hard. I’m not sure why that simple remark got me going, but cue the waterworks because we both just stood there in a lifelong hug crying together.
Emily has a special place in my heart; we grew up across the street from one another in West Hempstead. Her family and mine working together in the NYPD so our families have known each other forever. Emily, her sister Allyson and our other neighbor, Brittany, and myself were inseparable. We went camping together, slept in the back of the Weis’ Ford Explorer on road trips and no one could ever get us out of the pool. Some of the best memories I have growing up included those girls, so naturally, seeing her get married was emotional. Brittany and I were older so we always “babysat” Emily and Allyson. Emily was always the angel of the two, and Allyson loved to bite 😉 When both Emily and Brittany’s families moved when I was in middle school, we all thankfully kept in touch thanks to Facebook.
When I joined the Weis clan down in Florida in 2016, Emily, Allyson and I saw each other more frequently. I remember a few weeks after Emily got engaged, I got a phone call from her “I really want you to be a guest, but I also really want you to take our photos.” Something like that is an honor I don’t take lightly, and I was excited that she would even consider me. I finally got to officially meet Clint when we did their engagement photos. Right away I could see the genuine heart that Emily loved so much. The way he looked at her, the way he laughed at her and the way she could be her true self with him. I truly believe they were put on this earth to be with each other.
Emily’s girls were an amazing group of ladies! They really know how to make a girl feel beautiful, just look at the bridesmaids #firstlook. They helped any way they could, and supported every decision she made. When it started to pour just minutes before the ceremony, they kept her calm and joined hands in prayer to bless this special day.
Emily and Clint weren’t too sold on a first look at first. After explaining the pros of a first look, they were soooo on board. When it started to pour right before the ceremony, Emily thanked me for convincing her to do a first look because she got all the photos she wanted before the ceremony and had we not, we wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of the beautiful scenery Nocatee has to offer. Shameless plug for all you engaged people reading this!! Do it!!
Before their first look, they exchanged letters to one another.
Even though the ceremony got pushed indoors due to inclement weather, it was such a beautiful ceremony. Lots of tears and laughs filled the room. Emily and Clint did their own private communion and shared a prayer together.
